  • Simple pleasures. Most of time I’m cooking for others and rarely have time to cook for myself. When I do have time I like to keep it light and easy. This Is walnut honey shrimp and chicken with green beans. I ❤️ green beans and eat them like French fries minus the ketchup Want to watch me make this ??? #cocotasocatering

  • Budin or Bread pudding My Grandpa Cheo Carmona makes the best Budin in my opinion well that’s until........... 📚📙📚📙📚 . . . . . . Back in PR my Grandma Lydia was the main cook as Grandpa Cheo maintained la finca and did odd jobs around the town. On rare occasions Grandpa would hit the kitchen and on those rare occasions it meant he was making his famous oh so delish Budin. For a few days you waited and watched him store his Pan de aqua till it was hard then he’d make this master piece. He never officially taught me and he is still very much making this dish and being super stingy with his “secrets ingredient” he doesn’t know this ....but I know what is is 😂😂😂😂 and maybe he does or doesn’t know this but he’s shown me how to make his Budin a 100x . . . . . Food is a love language. the food I cook is nostalgic food or at least thats what I like to call it. Each dish I create comes with a story of a moment in my life .....thanks for allowing me to share it with y’all Pa’lante #eeeeeats #queenseats #tastey

  • #Repost @cookingwgranny with @make_repost ・・・ Grandma’s Pasteles in Marlboro Projects in Coney Island every Thanksgiving (Puerto Rican banana leaf-wrapped masa and meat) “We lived in Marlboro Projects in Coney Island. Our buildings were adjacent, so my mom lived in one building, and my grandma lived in the other with a couple of my aunts and a lot of my cousins. Come the holidays, we would always go to Grandma's house, and it was like an assembly line there. Someone's in charge of soaking the bananas — we use three different types — in water. Then someone’s peeling and chopping those bananas. Someone’s cutting the yuca and yautia. Someone’s cutting up the onions and ajicito for the sofrito. Someone's cutting the pork. Once all these components were chopped and peeled, then the oldest person — my grandmother — would start seasoning and cooking the meat, making the masa [from the root vegetables]. Then we came in — the kids. We would help tie the pasteles together, or stuff them in a bag to give away as gifts, or put them in the freezer. As years went on, you kind of stepped up in that ladder of what you were able to make. Maybe Grandma trusted me with cutting the bananas one year. Then, peppers another year. Unfortunately, I didn't get to the very top until March of 2018, when Grandma passed away. Now, I'm the leader of the assembly line and everyone else comes in to do everything.” - Frances Roman, chef and founder of @cocotasocateringllc which sells Abuela’s pasteles at the @queensnightmarket in non-Covid times #foodstories #pastelescaseros #puertoricanfood #abuelas #recetascaseras #recetadelaabuela #grandmasrecipe #cookingwithgranny #cookingwithgrandma #multicultural #bipoc #foodstory #storytelling #storytellers #humansofnewyork #grandmasofinstagram #grandmas #nycfoodies #nycfoodgals #nycfoods #nycfoodblogger #yuca #bananaleaf #bananaleaves #culturalheritage #foodisculture #foodwriter #foodwriting #foodwriters

This family also hooked me up ( I was 12 years old ) with a part time job at the Italian deli and bakery down the block. There I learned to make a bomb ass Sunday sauce.
